Reynolds photographs, 1885-1920.

Photographs taken and collected by A.S. Reynolds including images of Indians, mission buildings, portraits, transportation, and places in Arizona. There are photographs of Apache, Hopi, Maricopa, Mojave, Tohono O'odham, Ute and Yuma peoples; most are posed or studio portraits with the exception of the Tohono O'odham. The Tohono O'odham are captured in or near their homes, often trying not to be photographed. Missions include San Agustin and interior and exterior images of San Xavier. There are portraits of the Reynold family as well as Charles R. Allen and President William McKinley. Transportation images include bicycles, mule and burro teams, motorcycles, and stagecoaches. There are buildings and street scenes taken in Bisbee, Clifton, Douglas, Flagstaff, Globe, Jerome, Kingman, Mammoth, Winslow, Phoenix, Tombstone, and Yuma. Many photographs are of Tucson including buildings, streets, plazas, celebrations, homes and views.

President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand.
